With a wonderful list of highly anticipated design books to be released this fall – October is shaping up to be a fabulous month for design lovers everywhere. Among the many interesting titles to be released is Lauren Liess’ much-awaited third book Feels Like Home – Relaxed Interiors for a Meaningful Life, as well as designer Ashley Whittaker’s first book – The Well-Loved House: Creating Homes with Color, Comfort and Drama. We’ll also get a closer look at Bunny Mellon’s style legacy through Linda Jane Holden’s new book – Bunny Mellon Style – a tour de force of Mellon’s many iconic rooms & properties, a publication that promises to be a bestseller from the get-go. One book however has been a complete surprise for me, and a stunning one at that, Victoria Hagan’s  upcoming book – LIVE NOW – the result of a trying year for all of us which has led Hagan to take a closer look at the healing power of home.

Following an unimaginable year, esteemed designer Victoria Hagan shares her vision for the meaning of home through recently completed projects around the country. As an acclaimed interior designer and member of the AD100 and the Interior Design Hall of Fame, Victoria Hagan has achieved the highest pinnacle of success in her field. But when 2020 arrived, she found herself, like all of us, at home, seeing her life and her space with fresh eyes. The result is this book—a creative manifesto and a life-affirming look at the nature of home, and the many ways it can comfort and nourish us.

Designed as a luxurious oversize package, LIVE NOW celebrates the quiet beauty of everyday living. Open windows through which we glimpse the ocean, beckon, its hues echoed in the interior palette. A chair for reading awaits on a patio, overlooking an expanse of hills. Fresh corn and strawberries from the farmers’ market tumble over a kitchen table. The 12 dwellings featured in LIVE NOW may range in style, but all share the soothing, light-filled palette, serenity of mood, and aesthetic rigor for which Hagan is renowned, as well as a deep connection to their surroundings, from Sonoma to Palm Beach, and from Manhattan to Martha’s Vineyard.

I was delighted, and I’m sure you will be too, to find additional images of a stunning home on Martha’s Vineyard that we’ve seen published in Architectural Digest last spring. As for me, October can’t come soon enough! In the meantime, if you’d like to revisit that enchanting Martha’s Vineyard cottage, make sure to check out the following Café Design story:
