What We’ve Been Up To & A New Pressure Washer

Happy Labor Day weekend! I hope you’re having a great time, wherever you are, and that you’re taking advantage of some of the awesome sales happening  right now. The highlight of our weekend so far has been a negative Covid-19 test for Isabella and a Saturday spent dog-sitting sweet Albus (again). The first week back to school has been a challenge, not as peaceful as we hoped it would be. The excitement of being back in the classroom and running wild during recess ended on Friday with a sore throat and a runny nose for our daughter, and panic for us. We got a test as soon as possible and thankfully it was negative. I guess fear & worry is the name of the parenting game during these uncertain times and having Albus over all day yesterday lightened the mood and put us all in happier spirits. We also had lovely weather yesterday with a crisp morning breeze and clear blue skies throughout the day, and thought it was the perfect way to say goodbye to summer.

I realized the other day that it’s been ages since I last shared an update on the home front and the reasons are two-fold. For one, I’ve been busier than ever with work and have had the best time thinking about the homes of some of the sweetest clients around. And I am incredibly thankful for that. Second, we haven’t had anything major done to our house during the last three months, or at least nothing that is blog and picture-worthy. (We fixed the roof and the garage doors, but I’m sure you don’t want to see that 🙂  ) We ordered a sofa, which is expected to arrive in December, we ordered new window treatments, which are still at the seamstress. We got a larger natural fiber rug cut to fit the shape and size of the home office,  identical to the smaller one we had in there for a while but that doesn’t feel like much of a change.

What else? Ah, I am happy to report that I finally pulled the trigger on a new light fixture for the office, a lantern I’ve been eyeing for months and have even suggested to clients. It was on sale so I pounced. It’s this one below, if you’re on the market, on sale until later next week:

We’re also in the process of scheduling work with a new contracting firm but as of Friday nothing is settled. We planted limelight hydrangeas and made a round garden bed right off of the family room windows. I’ve ordered a large bird feeder to go on top of a post we had installed in the center of the bed and I’ll feel a great accomplishment when that’s done.

I’ve also added and moved things around in the garden but I’m not very pleased with how things look at the moment so I chose not to take pics. But our best purchase this summer has been by a mile, a much-needed pressure washer. You sweet readers have suggested we gave our front steps a good washing from the very beginning, and after two years, we finally did it 🙂 Having moved with only an electric screwdriver, we had quite a lot of tools to add to our kit, including a chain saw, router and router table, etc. and so it was definitely time to invest in a nice pressure washer. We researched many options available and we landed on one that our good friends and neighbors swear buy. It’s compact, electric and does a great job. This compact washer by Worx is a beast when turned on, and does the cleaning job beautifully. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for something that’s easy to use, hardworking and affordable. (We initially focused on gas-powered ones but decided against the hassle and mess of remembering to fill up our gas canisters.)

And that’s about it with our updates. I’am very excited about a couple of new client projects this month and as for our home, I hope to share more with you soon. Enjoy the rest of your Labor Day weekend, friends!

Sounds like you have been very busy, Eva. Same here – lots of little things that are changed/improved upon, which we hope will ultimately add up to a completed project. All part of the process, though, as it seems that the best rooms evolve slowly. Can’t wait to see your office and garden and all the other new things in the works.

Hi, Linda! Thank you so much for stopping by, I appreciate your kind words. Sometimes I feel like the world’s slowest decorator when it comes to our house, but I hope to share more pretty updates soon… Happy Labor Day weekend! xoxo, Eva

You will love your Limelight Hydrangeas. A suggestion from one who has fed the birds for many years you might want to put the feeder other than in the garden. Sunflower seeds have a anti growth agent that, will prohibit your plants and the shells also make quite a mess under the feeder. Found this out by trial and error.
Love watching the birds but have our feeders under a small gazebo where the ground being barren doesn’t matter and the feeders are protected from the elements.
Have a nice labor day and take some needed rest.

Thank you so much for mentioning that, Kathy! I learn something new every day! Will definitely look into that and see if we can adjust the position of our birdhouse. Happy Labor Day weekend! xo, Eva

Thanks for the update. Very happy to hear about the negative covid test. All of those small home updates may seem insignificant but I find such a sense of accomplishment in getting them done. I’ve worked on a number myself at my home over the past year or so.

Would you ever consider highlighting some of your client projects on the blog? Also looking at the charming kitchen inspo picture you posted makes me realize I’m not sure if we’ve ever seen your kitchen before. What is it like? A project? Perfect? Or just perfectly functional for now?

Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting, Lauren! I appreciate it! Regarding client work, I have loved working with all of my clients and have been blessed with fascinating projects to think about, so I definitely have material to highlight on the blog. What’s lacking is time on my end to do it right, but I’ll definitely consider sharing some of the projects in the near future. Thank you so much for your interest!

As for my kitchen, it is a huge project for sure! It hasn’t been touched since the 60s so it is nowhere near perfection! Haha… I have plans for a remodel that will happen optimistically within the next two years, realistically within the next five.

Have a lovely Labor Day weekend!
      xo, Eva
