It’s happened. After years and years of care and loving devotion, I finally let go. My natural hoarding tendencies have been tamed, and I survived. And surprisingly, I found something better: wish fulfillment. I am talking, of course, about furniture. Sofas, to be exact.

Our blue and white floral sofa is no longer our blue and white sofa. It has a new home and a new family to welcome and comfort during movie nights, rainy days and afternoon naps. And while saying goodbye was bittersweet, the thought of it being cherished by someone else, hopefully for years to come, brings me immense joy.
You see, I was holding on to it despite the fact that it had become increasingly clear that I’d outgrown it. I love experimenting with our home decor and the blue and white fabric, as beautiful as it was, restricted many of my decorating choices. So I set it free, while it still had a second or third act coming its way. Somewhere else.

And the best part – I was now free to find my dream sofa to replace it with. The one I had wanted all along. If you’ve been following this blog for some time, you’ve probably gotten glimpses of my love for English roll arm anything, especially chairs and sofas. I’ve been recommending them to clients and friends for years, and they’ve been all over my dream boards. Well, life is funny like that. The moment you let go and trust the universe, that’s the moment you find exactly what you’re looking for.

It took less than a week for a Facebook Marketplace listing to pop up on my feed. A green English roll arm sofa, 78” wide – perfect size, tight back and down seat cushions, from a highly motivated seller and at an attractive price, right here in my neck of the woods. It needs cleaning and some fancy new legs, but can you believe it?!? Listing picture below, more pictures of it in our home to follow.

Letting go is hard to do but the moral of today’s story? Have fun, settle temporarily if you have to, but hold steadfast to your dreams. And as schmaltzy as it may sound, repeat after me:
What is meant for me always finds me.

I am always so happy to see your blog posts in my inbox! I do love that blue toile sofa (I’m a toile fanatic!), but I do love an English roll arm sofa, especially tightbacks. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!

That’s so sweet of you, Diana! Thank you!
You are so right in trusting the universe to provide. I find many items I have wished
for at my local thrift stores. I recently got wonderful Halloween decorations there and
look forward to putting my witches hats and brooms in my leafless corner tree in the front yard
