This Week’s Finds

Happy Sunday, dear friends! I hope you’ve had a joyous and relaxing weekend!  It’s been a busy one for us, with an interesting mix of work and play. We’ve had an overnight visit from a dear friend, and I’ve had the pleasure to prepare and observe our hard-working family room being used as a guest bedroom. I love sharing our house – be it sleepovers, dinner parties or visits from our (many) four-legged friends. Having friends over somehow, breaking the laws of physics, makes our tiny house feel larger, more useful, and certainly happier. Laughter and good times are design essentials.

Some Much-Anticipated Design & Gardening Books in 2024

Happy 2024, dear friends! I hope you’re well! For those of you on the lookout for interesting new books on decorating and gardening, here’s a list of some exciting book launches this year, books that promise to inspire our future decorating & gardening projects. Some of the titles on this list are quite new, either newly launched or soon to be released, but some of them are older gems I discovered recently and have found inspirational. Create Academy‘s course, Cut and Come Again Masterclass, taught by Sarah Raven (which I’ll review in detail in a future post) has been an eye-opener for me, and a game-changer for many gardeners who wish to maximize the productivity of their garden patch. Following her Masterclass, I’ve become a fan of Sarah Raven’s no-nonsense approach to gardening, hence several of her books are included in today’s post. So, if you, too, are in need of a distraction from the cold winter weather, I hope something in today’s list will catch your eye.

15 Design Books to Add to Your Library in 2021

“What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet or excite you.” Anne Lamott

Having had a chance to look back at last year’s bestselling design books, it’s time to turn the page and glance into the future. There are some exciting new titles to be released in 2021 that I think many of you will appreciate and enjoy. To explore these books in more detail, just click on a title you’d like to see more about.

You’ll probably notice by scrolling down through my list that I am slightly biased in my choices, with a slight English Country Style bend, but I hope you won’t mind. Ros Byam Shaw, prolific writer for design magazines across the pond and author of several volumes in the Perfect English series – Perfect English, Perfect English Cottage, Perfect English Farmhouse, Perfect English Townhouse – is having a fifth book in the series published this spring – Perfect English Style– and we couldn’t be happier, could we?

Design Books to Read This Fall

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but fall is approaching faster than some of us might like, or wish. I love summer and we’ve enjoyed the best weather this past couple of months but we’ve been so busy feathering our nest that we didn’t feel August sneaking up on us. I love summer, yes I do, and although I do not like the thought of it ending anytime soon, we do have quite a few things to look forward to this fall. One of them is the design book launch season! Are you excited? So many great designers have new books coming out this fall that my Amazon cart is bursting! Here are some of my favorite new releases, available to pre-order, as well as a few seasoned ones that I’m coveting as well.
