Learn Modern Upholstery with Micaela Sharp & Create Academy

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to reupholster your own furniture? This is a question I asked myself when the only upholstery workroom in town closed during the early days of the pandemic. Knowing how to reupholster a tired old chair or a comfortable sofa that has seen better days is, without a doubt, a mad skill to have. It takes time and patience to acquire but, once you master the basics, you open yourself up to a world of immense creativity and satisfaction.

My most successful upholstery project so far 🙂

A Note on Create Academy

Prompted by a dear reader’s question (Hi, Sheena!) I realized that, while I have reviewed a number of Create Academy courses on the blog, many of you are perhaps still not familiar with the platform, so I thought I’d give you a flavor of their amazing mission and course offerings. Create Academy is a learning platform focusing on arts, crafts, gardening, food and interior design. They launched in November 2019  with an online course by the British interior decorator Rita Konig, followed by a class on floristry with the lovely Willow Crossley. Since then, they’ve expanded their curriculum to include numerous interior design and styling courses, gardening and cooking classes, as well as arts and crafts – my favorite. If you love audiobooks and podcasts, this is, in many ways, an even better learning opportunity because you get to watch experts do the vey thing you’d like to get better at. In addition, each course comes with a free lesson you can sample before making up your mind, which I found very useful. (Bellow is a link to such a free sample taken from Rita Konig’s fantastic class – The Ultimate Guide to Interior Design.)

Create Academy | A Guide to Pigments, Paints & Palettes by Edward Bulmer

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Create Academy and contains affiliate links. As always, all opinions are honest and my own.

Edward Bulmer ’s Create Academy class, A Guide to Pigments, Paints & Palettes, is for many of us a heaven-sent opportunity. Color is one of the most elusive aspects of interior decoration and getting it “wrong” can be an expensive mistake. So, if you’ve ever been faced with the daunting task of choosing “the right” paint color for a room in your home, then you, too, can appreciate the value of lessons on color coming from someone who not only practices the art of interior decoration, but comes at it with a deep understanding of pigments and the discerning  knowledge of what makes certain paint colors better (and more appropriate) than others.
