Designing a Built In Corner Bench

For today’s design story I thought I’d share with you a recent project I’ve been working on that has me very excited – a built-in corner bench for our kitchen! I believe that every home has a heart, a place where the people living there, as well as their guests, tend to gather and hang out. In some houses the heart is the room with the most comfortable sofa. In our house, it’s the room with the refrigerator.

Happy almost weekend, dear friends! I hope you’re well! This week has flown by, with a ton of good intentions on my part to write, yet few actual free moments of quiet solitude to gather my thoughts and share with you some fun happenings & things I’ve been contemplating for our home. Several of you have asked to see the painted fireplace as it sits in the living room, surrounded by furniture and nicknacks, and since you’ve asked so nicely, here it is:

Hi, friends! Do you remember that DIY project I was telling you about a couple of weeks ago? Well, I underestimated the amount of time it would take me to get it done, styled and shot (oops!) but it’s finally finished and I’m happy with the result, so I thought I’d share the process with you, in case you need some encouragement to do a little reupholstering of your own.

Current living situation: finds old and new, colors and patterns slowly making friends with each other, and a room that’s starting to look like home. See that new quilt on the sofa, barely making it into the pic? My favorite flea market find this month!

DIY Files |  A Quick & Easy Peg Rail

If you’re looking for a quick and easy DIY project that does not require much skill or time investment on your part yet is immensely satisfying, then today’s DIY peg rail project could be for you! Peg rails are a charming cottage detail often found in colonial style homes, and their beautiful simplicity makes them both timeless and modern. A sturdy peg rail is a practical storage opportunity and a great way to coral stray coats, hats and handbags in busy entryways and mudrooms, or neatly display an assortment of hand towels in bathrooms and kitchens. They are as practical as they are pretty, and I love using them throughout our home.

Our Cottage Living Room Makeover | Part I

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links.

Hey, friends! Anyone still out there? I apologize for my silence last week… I meant to have a couple of stories out but we’re in the middle of a new & exciting project at our house and it’s all I can think about these days!!! Since we bought our cottage, some three + years ago, I’ve been looking for ways to make it look, feel & live a little bit larger than its tiny footprint, without ruining its cottage charms. Some of my ideas were sensible, others downright outrageous (we won’t talk about those). But slowly we made progress. We tweaked the floor plan to improve the flow between the rooms, and added windows & French doors wherever possible to bring in natural light and garden views. You can read more about our Cape Cod style cottage HERE, HERE and HERE.
