Last Week’s Finds

I hope you had a peaceful weekend, dear friends, despite the sadness of recent events… Unlike other years, in a matter of weeks our fall schedule has exploded and I find myself making list after list, in an effort to transition our calendar to the busy demands of September, as seamlessly as possible. And it’s been bumpy… After a crazy work week, the weekend was a wonderful time to relax in the garden and tackle some exciting projects: we must rethink some of our garden beds and move some plants around, apply fertilizers, milky spore and mulch, re-edge & plant spring bulbs etc. You know, all the fun gardening stuff that come with the change of seasons…

Iris “Caesar’s Brother”

What does your schedule look like these days? Have you planted some bulbs yet? I have been searching for iris rhizomes locally but without much luck. Last year I went overboard with a dwarf variety called Dutch Iris, not realizing at the time of planting that they were going to be, well, small, and completely useless in my flower arrangements. So this year I’m going with a long-stemmed variety called “Caesar’s Brother”. Do you know it? It’s hardy for zones 4-9 and I ordered a few pots from this online nursery that I can’t wait to receive and plant. They make beautiful bouquets in late spring / early summer… As for last week’s finds, several stories & have been on my radar – I hope you see something you like!

The season of cozy blankets and hot lattes is upon us and these cashmere throws would work splendidly with a variety of color schemes and décor styles:

I keep coming back to this classic vintage English roll arm sofa on Chairish, not only because it’s lovely but because the tight back makes it incredibly hard-wearing and comfortable. I am a huge believer in buying vintage, whenever possible, so if you’ve been looking for a quality sofa that will outlast trends, this one might be a great option…

I’ve had a thing for glass hurricanes that can double as flower vases for as long as I can remember. Nothing wrong in getting the maximum use out of our pretty little things…

I love the variety of colors and softness of these baby alpaca wool throws:

If you want to bring the beauty of summer blooms indoors, especially during the colder months, a great way to be reminded of a bountiful flower garden would be with these lovely pillow covers from Lisa Fine Textiles:

Hope things settle down by the end of the month. When we had a young family, I remember September and May being so busiest. It’s nice to have weekends to rely on to recharge.
    Have a great week.

Yes, I know Caesars Brother Blue Siberian Iris very well. I think its an excellent choice in your garden and the dsrk blue flowers are stunning. Ive planted a long row of them from divisions and started with just one clump I bought ages ago. Another bonus is after they bloom the grass like foliage forms mounds which reminds me of the Japanese Hokone forest grass.

Thanks, Jamie! I’m glad to hear you’ve had such success with this iris Caesar’s Brother. I’m counting on them doing well (and propagating fast) in our garden…
