Our series of Create Academy class reviews continues with what has been one of my absolute favorite courses on interior design & decorating available on the platform so far – Amanda Lindroth ’s course – Design Interiors for Entertaining. While the title encompasses the premise and the reward of this class, the series of beautifully shot lessons teach us valuable lessons in decorating that will both empower the novice decorator and inspire the experienced designer with useful insights, tips and techniques from Lindroth’s own toolkit.

Known for her tropical interiors inspired by life in the Caribbean, Amanda Lindroth ’s design firm and brand centers around luxurious island living. Over a career that spans more than two decades, she has designed homes for people at leisure; vacation homes and hotels in some of the most sought-after locations – from Nassau, Lyford Cay and the Florida Keys to San Francisco, San Diego, Miami, New York, Maine and beyond. Her aesthetic is rooted in the glamour of Slim Aron’s Palm Beach of the 1960s as well as in the extraordinarily beautiful Mediterranean revival architecture of 1920s Miami.

With an impeccable eye for design and a distinct ability to define even the most elusive concepts in decorating, in terms that are easy to comprehend (What is charm? How do we create a sense of luxury? What makes a house beautiful? ) Amanda Lindroth ‘s class will allow you to gain the confidence you need to start designing on your own, step by step. Some of the many topics covered in the class:

The Five Stages of the Decorating Process

From finding inspiration and creating a design concept to development, procurement (the acquisition of goods and services needed for the design implementation) and, finally, the installation (bringing it all together), Lindroth shares her vast experience and provides helpful tips for navigating each stage seamlessly.

Creating a Layout and Furniture Plan

Self-taught but incredibly methodic and passionate about her business, Amanda Lindroth shares her approach to creating functional furniture layouts for her rooms, without the help of sophisticated computer drafting programs.

Lessons from Amanda’s Studio

We get to visit Amanda’s studio and learn the importance of creating inspiration boards that will guide both the clients and the design team.

Amanda’s Home: Hope Hill

The designer’s own home is a perfect illustration of her philosophy and methods. We are taken on a virtual tour of Hope Hill and get a closer look at some of its most iconic rooms. We learn about Amanda Lindroth’s design choices, thrifty tips and tricks, mistakes she made and ways she corrected them. Generous with her advice and friendly in her demeanor. Lindroth shares her secrets to designing homes that exude a calm, relaxed vibe and are often viewed as oases for clients with busy lives. The bottom line: No matter how much, or how little, you wish to entertain at home, Amanda Lindroth’s class will be a most useful companion that will help you decorate rooms that are pleasing first and foremost to you – rooms filled with color, joy and luxury, rooms you’ll love spending time in (with or without your guests).
