Shopping for Glass Hurricane Candle Holders

Decorating (or redecorating) a room is a complex process that involves many layers, not the least of which are the accessories – that final touch that makes all your efforts come together into a room that feels cozy and welcoming. To fight the cold and gloomy weather that’s been plaguing New England these last couple of months, I’ve been lighting a lot of candles around the house, especially during that soft hour right before the sun starts to set. Unfortunately, last week I managed to break one of my favorite glass hurricane candle holders and I was bummed because it was a sturdy little guy that had survived all our cross-country moves and it felt like saying goodbye to an old friend. Anyway, that’s glass for you… and with my butter fingers, I’m surprised I did not break it sooner. I started looking for a new one the other day and I wanted to share with you my finds, in case you’re also looking to replace yours or to add to your existing collection. (I hope it’s the latter.) I always include beautiful glass hurricane candle holders in my decorating plans for clients, so I had a few go-to sources I knew won’t disappoint. The ones below are some of my favorites. As you’ll notice, they come in different shapes, styles and sizes, and at different price points. I am a huge fan of Simon Pearce glass, which is handblown using centuries-old techniques, here in the USA. Because they are made with artisanal glass which is heavier and of higher clarity, Simon Pearce hurricanes are slightly pricier than the other options I included. If you’re interested in their products, I recommend buying directly from their website. This will ensure you get the best price, straight from the manufacturer, without any markups.

I adore glass and often dream of decorating our mantel entirely with empty clear glass vessels of different shapes and sizes. Here’s a roundup, hope you see something you like:

Medium Clear Glass Hurricane – $60

Large Clear Glass Hurricane – $70

Small Clear Glass Hurricane – $50

Personalizable glass hurricanes, available in two sizes:

Small $59.95

Large $69.95.

Here’s an image to give you an idea of their sizes compared to one another (the personalized etching is optional):

For a more modern look, these straight-edge glass hurricanes look as beautiful reflecting candlelight as they do filled with twinkling garlands or terrarium plantings. Each is handmade in crystal-clear glass by artisans at a European glass collective dating back to 1923.

9″ Candle Holder

13.5″ Candle Holder

Glass Hurricane 11″ x 7.8″ $25

Simon Pearce Glass:

A window into the crisp, clean, stately elegance of Cape Cod’s islands – and one of the Pearces’ favorite summer spots – the high sides and unparalleled clarity of this cylindrical silhouette is perfect for engraving. One of Simon Pearce’s most iconic designs, and an indoor-outdoor favorite. Handmade by Simon Pearce glassblowers using centuries-old techniques. Dimensions : 9″ x 6¼″

      Hi Pamela,
I am not 100% sure on the size of that one but I think you can’t go wrong with the medium one.
Hope you find the perfect glass hurricane for your home!
