With a wonderful list of highly anticipated design books to be released this fall – October is shaping up to be a fabulous month for design lovers everywhere. Among the many interesting titles to be released is Lauren Liess’ much-awaited third book Feels Like Home – Relaxed Interiors for a Meaningful Life, as well as designer Ashley Whittaker’s first book – The Well-Loved House: Creating Homes with Color, Comfort and Drama. We’ll also get a closer look at Bunny Mellon’s style legacy through Linda Jane Holden’s new book – Bunny Mellon Style – a tour de force of Mellon’s many iconic rooms & properties, a publication that promises to be a bestseller from the get-go. One book however has been a complete surprise for me, and a stunning one at that, Victoria Hagan’s  upcoming book – LIVE NOW – the result of a trying year for all of us which has led Hagan to take a closer look at the healing power of home.

What We’ve Been Up To & A New Pressure Washer

Happy Labor Day weekend! I hope you’re having a great time, wherever you are, and that you’re taking advantage of some of the awesome sales happening  right now. The highlight of our weekend so far has been a negative Covid-19 test for Isabella and a Saturday spent dog-sitting sweet Albus (again). The first week back to school has been a challenge, not as peaceful as we hoped it would be. The excitement of being back in the classroom and running wild during recess ended on Friday with a sore throat and a runny nose for our daughter, and panic for us. We got a test as soon as possible and thankfully it was negative. I guess fear & worry is the name of the parenting game during these uncertain times and having Albus over all day yesterday lightened the mood and put us all in happier spirits. We also had lovely weather yesterday with a crisp morning breeze and clear blue skies throughout the day, and thought it was the perfect way to say goodbye to summer.

Summer Bedding Roundup

Twice a year, in early spring and late summer, I make it a habit to add to our ever-growing collection of bedding. I love the feel of crisp sheets and like to switch out the look of our beds often so I’m always on the lookout for timeless prints and colors to bring into our home. This time of year is great for finding some wonderful bedding on sale and since last week we talked a lot about pillows, today we’ll have a look at some great options available if you’re on the lookout for something pretty for the bedroom. Serena & Lily have really hit the spot this summer with their collection of shams, sheet sets and duvet covers, and most of them are now on sale. Below are some of my absolute favorites, although most of their things are really pretty and I had a hard time keeping this list contained:

1. Embroidered pillowcases, set of 2, available in several different embroidery colors:

5 Great Pillow Sources on Etsy

Throw pillows are like a fabulous pair of shoes – you can’t have too many and they dress up even the blandest of outfits, or sofas. One of the easiest ways to refresh your decor is to switch out your throw pillows with the seasons, or when the mood strikes. This is not breaking news, I know, but having an abundant stash of timeless prints and coordinating solids to choose from will allow you to experience your home in new and exciting ways without having to break the bank. And who doesn’t want that?

Renovating a Cape Cod Style Cottage | Family Room | Built-in Bookshelves

It’s been months since I last shared updates on our family room’s builtin bookshelves but with the unexpected & long-lasting effects of the pandemic, finding carpenters available for the job in our area has been a challenge and everything took longer than we had originally planned. Ten months and thousands of phone calls later, we’re grateful that the builtin bookshelves are done and the job is 90% completed. We just finished painting the room so I thought I’d share with you where we are with this project.

The day of our move, two years ago…
