A Colonial Style Fireplace Makeover

Happy December, dear friends! I hope today’s post will offer you some design inspiration as well, not just a glimpse into the madness of my methods. When it comes to decorating, I tend to develop micro-obsessions – mostly about color and interior architectural details – and our living room fireplace has been a recurring thought in our renovation efforts. Our fireplace  – I don’t think I’ve given this much attention to any other architectural change in our house so far. As little and as insignificant this may seem to most people (normal people), getting the fireplace mantel right has been very important to me.

Happy Thanksgiving!

“Be present in all things and grateful for all things.” Maya Angelou

Somehow we blinked, and it’s Thanksgiving! How did this happen? With the holiday season upon us, I wanted to stop by and wish you all a peaceful Thanksgiving celebration. May you spend these days surrounded by people you love, in gratitude and joy, with open hearts, and plenty of room for pie. And because this is a design blog, I thought I’d share with you a project that I am thankful to have finished this year, and that I never got around to show you – a new deck, right off of our family room.

Happy Sunday, dear friends! I hope you had a fun weekend! Another busy week has come and gone, followed by beautiful crisp days with clear skies and sunshine, filled with college sports, nature walks, and good food. I’ve been neglecting the garden for a while but today I finally found some time and raked the last of the fallen leaves (one can only hope) and cleaned up some of the flower beds. There are still some garlic bulbs to be planted, sometime next week, but after that I’m ready to hibernate. Indoors. Here are this week’s finds. Let me know if you see something you like!

Happy Sunday, dear friends! I hope your weekend was a fun one. We’re ending a busy week, filled with activity on all fronts – copious amounts of work and play, sprinkled with some comfort food  and plenty of warm cider. I had hoped to have blogging things ready by now but such is life. Hoping you’re still around, here are this week’s finds, along with some highlights on the home front. Trick or treating was a huge success this year. We got enough candy to tide us over until Thanksgiving, for which I’ve started practicing some new bakes. I also spotted the most darling jack-o lantern I’ve ever seen, and I’m sharing the pic I snapped in case you need some inspiration for next year’s pumpkin designs. My neighbor turned her pumpkin sideways and, what do you know, the result was hilarious. I’m so stealing this carving idea.
