This Week’s Finds

Happy weekend, dear friends! I hope you’re well! It’s been a beautiful week here in Western Massachusetts, with warm, sunny days that have melted away early spring and brought back some color and activity in my garden. While spare moments have been rare and far in between lately, the few I’ve had I’ve spent in joy, in the company of our latest borrowed pup, Sam, whose presence in our house has brought much happiness, and a worrisome decrease in my productivity.

When not working or playing, Sam allowed me to experiment with a couple of old favorite recipes from Claire Saffitz’s fabulous cook book, Dessert Person, a cook book that has brought me (and a few lucky friends 🙂 ) immense pleasure over the years.

What have you been up to lately? Have you had time to check out Rita Konig’s latest Create Academy class? I have, and it’s absolutely wonderful, and I’ll share a review of it soon!  For now, here are this week’s finds, a bit longer than usual, to make up for our time apart. Hope you find something you like!

I’ve heard great things about the Dessert Person book, and I enjoy the YT channel. What are your favorites? The cover photo, while lovely, has me wondering if I would like the offerings. I can’t seem to find a copy locally to thumb through. I’ve been on the fence. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Sheena, there are several great recipes in Claire Saffitz’s book – but my favorites so far are the cheesecakes and the upside down orange cake pictured on the cover. All of the recipes are sophisticated and unexpected twists on classics, and the results taste unlike any other cheesecake or upside down fruit cakes I’ve ever tasted. If you have a sweet tooth but are picky with your desserts like me, I highly recommend this book!

Hi Eva. I subscribed to a year of access to the Create Academy since I’m retired and wanted to get my
love of decorating jump started with some fresh ideas. I am currently alternating between the Rita Konig episodes and Willow Crossley’s The Complete Floristry Masterclass episodes. Both classes are inspiring! I’ve rearranged some of my things based on Rita Konig’s philosophy of decorating and I’ve arranged flowers from my garden with a new passion. It’s fun to see things in a new light.

I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying your Create Academy subscription, Anne! I find it to be such a wonderful and binge-worthy platform, in certain ways a cross between Downton Abbey and Masterclass 🙂
