Apologies for the lack of a Wednesday post, the tropical storm the other night left our block in the dark and our gardens a hot mess. Luckily no major damage was done to our property but the amount of leaves and branches and young trees that have fallen is beyond anything we’ve experienced before. (On the positive side, all those dried-up branches on our 20-foot tall trees were downed, a job we could never have tackled ourselves. Silver linings…) Anyway, we spent the best part of our day yesterday clearing out the front yard, hence the change of schedule. I managed to clip a few Stargazer lilies from our garden before the onset of the storm on Tuesday so I now have a sweet little bouquet to remind me of my pretty flowers before the storm. As I snapped a photo this morning, I thought I’d show you a quick before-and-after of how a neglected corner of our living room has changed over the last year. This image below was taken a couple of days before our move last summer…
Below, the same nook right now. Lilies aside, it is still a work in progress as we slowly amass more ginger jars and Chinese porcelain vases big enough to fill up the space above our new highboy. I love the wall color and the warm contrast it makes with the trim and the beams but every now and then I contemplate the idea of having the entire room wallpapered in a pretty blue and white paisley pattern. We’ll see…
The lilies smell great and mixed with some Queen Anne’s lace from the side of the road, picked on my morning run, make a happy addition to the house. In hindsight, I only wish I had planted more. In the meantime, I hope you are all staying safe and as positive as possible under the circumstances. Promise to be back tomorrow with a proper post and a happy home tour to cheer us up for the weekend. Take care!
That highboy is absolutely perfect for that spot. What a find!

Thank you, Linda! Its previous owner is a decorator & landscape designer here in Mass! She is now more into primitive Early American style furnishings and reluctantly decided to part with this piece. I feel lucky to be its new caretaker… xo, Eva
