I just realized that it’s been a long time since I last posted about our home. I don’t know about you but I blinked and it was Valentine’s Day!! January passed way too quickly, leaving me with a long list of unfinished projects around the house, like painting our bedroom walls or ordering fabric for our new bedroom shades. I plan on posting about my design plans for the bedroom soon, but in the meantime, I thought you’d enjoy a peek into our refreshed living room.
First off, say hello to our new Hitchcock chair! It’s a gift from my mom we picked up the day before she left, about a month ago. It took me forever to snap some pretty pictures, and these don’t do it justice, but here it is! Isn’t she a beaut?! I’m not sure whether it’s an antique or a high quality reproduction but I love it nonetheless. I still need to find the right place for it, but for a while it sat right here in front of the window.
You know how you need to live in a place for some time before you get an idea of how to best utilize the space? Well, I’m glad to say that I do practice what I preach because our living room floor plan has changed quite a bit since we moved in. It has evolved organically over the last six months, as I began to better understand how we live in the apartment. I had a very good idea of how I wanted the room to look & feel like right from the start but I did do some tweaking to the seating plan. I originally wanted a sofa + pair of armchairs on either side of the bookshelves but after living here for a while it became clear to me that we needed more chairs. We entertain often and had house guests over the holidays, so to be able to comfortably seat five, six adults at once we needed two more armchairs. Twist of fate, a friend of mine was selling hers (almost new, too big for her space) and this is how I got the prettiest roll-arm English club chairs ever! Covered in a raspberry-red and moss-green floral, they are the comfiest chairs we own at the moment, a tall order considering we have about 10. I intend to have them slipcovered in something more neutral, a check or a stripe, but for the moment they fit our living room perfectly. I need to rearrange the bookshelves and then I’ll snap some pictures, I promise. Here’s a sketch of how our living room looks like at the moment. The wingback chair, Isabella’s favorite reading spot, is now in her room and still a favorite.
Another thing that’s changed is our coffee table. I wasn’t happy with the black Ikea one, it was too dark for the room, so I had it painted a warm country white. It completely changed the feel of the space, don’t you think? Aside from that, I’ve ordered some pretty fabrics and they’re off being made into pillows.
I also gave myself an early birthday present from Rustic Rooster Interiors, a blue and white Chinese vase that’s sitting pretty on two of my most hard-working coffee table books – Carrier & Co’s Chic Interiors and Gil Schafer’s A Place to Call Home. The sofa throw is an Ambrai India quilt used on reverse. When I crave more pattern, I just turn it inside out.
And that’s about it for the moment with our living room changes. I’m still looking for a piece above the sofa but had no luck finding something the right size that I liked. My mom gifted me a beautiful still life oil that has been in my family for generations but because of its size and value, she has been hesitant about shipping it overseas. Besides, the little fella above the sofa is growing on me… so we’ll see.
Anyway… I hope you enjoyed today’s post! Stay tuned for more to come! Have a lovely weekend, friends!
