Happy MLK Day! I hope you are enjoying a peaceful extended weekend at home. Thank you so much for your kind comments and advice after Friday’s post! You had some great ideas to share!! Per your request, I’ll do my best to keep you posted as we (hopefully) progress. But we’ve been taking it slowly over the last few days, sneaking in some well-deserved moments of rest and relaxation and several Antiques Roadshow episodes. We ran out of bread on Friday and wanting to avoid a trip to the store, we (OK, my husband) found a recipe online and baked bread at home instead. Yum. I also got to experiment with a new pasta sauce recipe this weekend and it was a success (but then again, pasta always is, at least at our house). I’ll share it soon if you’re interested, along with a long-promised Transylvanian sweet bread I baked this Christmas. My mom’s recipe. No kneading necessary.
Since on Friday I shared with you what’s been happening on the outside, I thought I’d share a few updates on the inside as well. I apologize for not having any styled photos to share with you right now, as I’m still waiting for a coffee table, and a miracle. A day in which I manage to get my act together and have fresh flowers and fluffed up pillows and candles lit and angels singing in the background. But since that’s not happening any time soon, I wanted to share a few recent antiques we purchased that I am super excited about.
The antiquing gods have been really good to me lately and I managed to source a super pretty 18th-century English table, as well as a dining room table that hails from Nantucket and the lady I bought it from swears it’s at least 120 years old. It’s also on casters, with two extra leaves so we can entertain a soccer team if we have to.
Shown above is our new English table, which will be going in the living room by the fireplace. The dining table, which I have no listing image saved and had no time to photograph, looks very similar to this one below from Chairish, except the top is oval and the legs aren’t fluted:
And my most recent find – a desk that comes all the way from New Orleans. My daughter has a desk in her room, my husband took over mine and set up his workshop in our bedroom. The family room is up in the air, with work halted on our builtins and no space for me to work. So I took over the dining room table but the dining room is a pass through area and I get interrupted a million times a day (one of the reasons why today’s post is so late 🙂 ).
If it seems like I’m finding excuses to justify my latest purchase, I am. But the desk is lovely and just the right size to go behind our living room sofa to double as a console table and home office space. For me 🙂 . In homes like our’s where space is at a premium, items that can do double duty are preferable I think. I found two images that show rooms with a similar setup to what I have in mind.
These new pieces are all still in our garage, quarantining and waiting to be cleaned up and brought inside. I promise to show you nicer images when they’re in place! Enjoy the rest of your day and excuse my bragging!
Your finds are incredible! I love the way your home is coming together, layer by layer, great find by great find. I’m sure it’s already beautiful, but will become even more so as you find just the right piece for the right space.
I’ve been enjoying some online estate sales these past few weeks…..so nice to look!
