Last Week’s Finds

After another scorching weekend here in Western Mass, with copious amounts of lemonade consumed and lots of time spent indoors, we’re expecting some relief from the unusually high temps later this week. When we bought our house three summers ago we decided to remove all the window units for aesthetic purposes and boy, do we regret it now! There’s a fan going in every room of our house and between the white noise and the heat, I am having a hard time leaving our cool (and quiet) basement.

Bellflowers / Campanula in the garden

As uncomfortable as we’ve been these past couple of weeks, the garden has suffered the most with the heat, and I am desperately trying to keep the last of our flowers hydrated – watering early in the mornings and then again late in the afternoons. We never got around to installing sprinklers in our front yard (usually we have the opposite problem, our property gets too much water, regardless of the season) so the grass has yellowed and gone dormant.

Echinacea

But overall it does feel like summer, and we’ve managed to keep busy and inspired, despite these unexpected weather curveballs. We take frequent trips to the pool and the local library, and have thoroughly enjoyed the decrease in the tick and mosquito populations due to the lack of rain, which has made our evening walks that much more pleasurable. (Mosquitos always seem to zero in on me and bathing in repellent is really the only way I can handle summer evenings outdoors.)

Shasta daisies and lilies

We’ve also kept busy with work & planning some changes at home. Finding a lovely outdoor furniture set has been on my to-do list for months and we’ve finally decided on timeless Adirondack chairs for our backyard. (I’ll include a couple of links below). The rest of last week’s finds include some cushions and pillows (always on my mind), tips for planting fun things in the garden (always on my mind, as well), and a tour of a  cozy English cottage by Studio Faeger. Hope you enjoy & stay cool!

Pretty places and things. I love the Adirondack chair by the water. Sigh. It’s really hot and humid here right now, so that looks so inviting.
    Enjoy your week.
