Our Home | A Cool New Find

As I shared before, I’m working on decorating our apartment and it’s coming right along. We started with the living room because it’s the largest space and the room we spend most of our time together, entertaining or simply relaxing with a book. Once we decided on a furniture layout and color scheme, (I wrote about our plans HERE and HERE), we started with our bookshelves. We have a pair of Billy’s that we’re in the process of upgrading with new trim and bead board backs.

Just adding the crown molding and base boards made such a difference and I can’t wait to show you the finished result. They are now primed and I’m still deciding on paint – simply white with/without (?) pale sky blue backs… I think both ways would look great but I’m taking my time because I want to spare myself the trouble of removing a million books in order to repaint the backs… So, while I’m mulling over paint swatches I’m also on the hunt for pretty, one-of-a-kind accessories for our home and, on that note, I want to share with you a sweet find.

Let me start by saying that I wanted to buy a kantha quilt for a really long time but each time I found something I liked, I was hesitant about the purchase. That was until I found Ambrai India, a lesser known Etsy quilt and accessories shop owned by two lovely ladies, Vasundhara and Sahira. I liked their fresh and pretty selection of throws, bed spreads and carpets, all handmade in New Delhi, India, so I purchased a blue and white cotton quilt. I didn’t know what to expect because it was my first Etsy purchase but, a week later, my package arrived and I’ve been so happy with our new quilt!!

I tried to style it in different ways to best show it off 🙂 but my pictures don’t do it justice. The color is most closely matched by the image above, although being a hand-dyed and hand-woven item, differences between items may occur. Some days I like to use it as a table cloth (it’s thin enough that it works), other times I drape it casually on our sofa. It adds pattern and color without actually switching out the slipcover and, I find our sofa looks cozier with it too. It’s also very soft and great for naps.

I was so happy with my purchase that I reached out to Ambrai India and asked them if they’d be interested in a collaboration. As a result, if any of you Café Design readers are interested in buying something from their  shop, you will receive a 10% discount with the code FIRSTBUYAMBRAI. The offer is valid through September 30, 2018. They have a yummy selection right now, I already have my eyes on a few pieces to complement my quilt, and I hope you too will find something you like! You can follow Ambrai India on Instagram for latest news, offers and promo codes.
