Decorating Dominos

It’s been a while since I let you in on what we’ve been up to at home. In part because things have been progressing rather slowly, in part because we’ve been making a few boo-boos here and there that I wasn’t too proud to share. But our latest mishap is too major not to, if only as a warning: The more you want something to happen, the harder it’s going to be! Just kidding. Sort of.

Yesterday we started installing beams in our living room. I’ve been planning, measuring, painting and counting those beams for months, neatly tucked in the living room as a constant reminder of how busy good contractors can get. We like ours and decided to wait for his schedule to clear up and was way too excited, way too happy when he finally had the time to start the job. But you see, my excitement must have jinxed the whole thing because no sooner was the first beam in that he realized he’d punctured a hot water pipe while installing the supports. The basement started flooding, the drywall melting and the living room wall caving in. I don’t remember much after that but my husband tells me I spent some time under the kitchen table. Thankfully, things got fixed and the damage contained (knock-on-wood) but someone has been breathing into a brown bag all night last night. I won’t say who.

P.S: I’ll be back later today with a proper post.

Whooo boy, things happen. One Thanksgiving the stack pipe which was connected to an upstairs toilet and which ran down through the kitchen leaked into the kitchen wall. And it was the toilet in the guest bathroom where our guests were staying for the holidays. Be thankful that your blip was the hot water pipe!! All that matters now is our health and well being. All the best to you and yours.

Oh, no! That sounds way worse, so sorry! It must have been so stressful for you!
And yes, I completely agree with you and told my husband the same thing – Thank God it was the hot water pipe! – otherwise it would have taken us several more hours to realize what’s going on… Phew… Thanks for leaving a comment, stay safe! xo, Eva

Hello, Janet… Yes, for sure! You never know what’s really hiding behind the drywall. We were lucky it was a hot water pipe and when I touched the wall it felt really warm, so we could act right away. But were it electrical or gas… I can’t bear to even think about it. Stay safe! xo, Eva
