Happy Monday! Hope your week is off to a good start. Instead of a usual blog post, today I want to share with you a little furniture makeover I worked on over the weekend. This old dresser came to me from a friend who was clearing out her basement and asked if I wanted it. She knew I love old furniture and seeing that this is such a great piece, I said yes. The dresser is an antique and I liked that it had good bones and pretty drawer pulls that were original to the piece. But the layers of cobwebs and gunk, and thick green oil paint made me instantly regret my decision so I cleaned it up and left it out in the garage for a while, not knowing whether to chuck it or keep it.
During a trip to Home Depot last week, I found myself in the paint section and decided to pick a couple of paints to test out on my new old dresser. A warm white for the exterior and a cool blue-gray for the inside of the drawers. It took me the greater part of an afternoon to paint it all and now that it’s clean and dry, I have it minimally styled in our dining room. We won’t keep it though, because it is massive and doesn’t go with the rest of our things, but it was such a therapeutic experience to have something old and battered get a new lease on life.
Anyway, don’t worry – I won’t change the focus of the blog to DIY, I just wanted to share my small victory with you 🙂 Take care!
Why not make it into a bathroom sink cabinet? Nice job!

Thank you, Jo! That would be really lovely but our bathrooms are tiny and this piece is really way bigger than it looks in the picture… xo, Eva
It’s lovely, Eva, and you’ve done a great job! I’ve done some things with chalk paint–so easy and the results are gratifying.
Perhaps you’ll find a use for it at some point in the future?

Thank you, Diana! It is easy, isn’t it? I have always enjoyed Miss Mustard Seed’s furniture transformations but I only ever experienced them from afar… I was always intimidated by the prospect of striping a finish before painting something but the paint just went on without any problems. It is so gratifying to see a piece come back to life like this… I’ll try to sell this one because it is huge in comparison with our tiny rooms and the only spot it for it would be the basement… But if nobody wants it, it will stay 🙂 xo, Eva
